The 2026 AVERT National Research Symposium is an invitation-only in-person event taking place on 26–27 November 2026 at Macquarie University's City Campus (Level 24/123 Pitt St), Sydney, Australia.
This year, we are offering a nationally focused symposium that allows a deep dive into issues of national and strategic priority for the CVE (countering violent extremism) and CT (counterterrorism) research and practitioner communities in Australia.
Bringing together researchers, practitioners, analysts and policymakers from across Australia, this year's National Symposium will explore pressing and unresolved challenges in understanding and addressing youth radicalisation, online influences and resources; challenges in youth engagement with violent extremist narratives and subcultures, and the growing involvement of young people in diverse expressions of extremist intent and violence.
Overseas presenters can register to present virtually. Australian presenters may also be able to present online in very limited circumstances, and with approval from the Symposium Organising Committee.
